Direct-to-Film

Versatile Full-Color DTF Printing by Tri-Arts

Tri-Arts offers Direct-to-Film (DTF) printing for custom apparel with bright colors, fine detail, and excellent flexibility. DTF is a great choice for smaller orders, full-color artwork, detailed designs, and garments that may not be ideal for traditional screen printing or DTG.

What Is Direct-to-Film Printing?

Direct-to-Film printing uses specialized equipment to print your design onto a transfer film, which is then heat-applied to the garment. This process allows detailed, full-color artwork to be applied to a wide variety of fabrics and garment types.

DTF is especially useful for smaller quantities, complex artwork, and mixed garment materials, while screen printing is often more cost-effective for larger runs. Not sure which method is best? Tri-Arts can recommend the right decoration process based on your artwork, garment, quantity, and budget.

Best Uses for DTF

DTF is a great choice for:

  • Small to medium quantity orders
  • Full-color or highly detailed artwork
  • Logos with gradients, shading, or many colors
  • Cotton, polyester, blends, and many other fabrics
  • Mixed garment styles within the same order
  • Short runs and reorders

Why Choose DTF?

Best Uses for DTF

Unlike screen printing, DTF does not require separate screens for each color. This makes it efficient for detailed artwork and lower quantities while still producing vibrant, durable results on a wide variety of garments.

Pros

  • Excellent full-color detail
  • Works on many fabric types
  • Great for smaller quantities
  • Bright colors on light and dark garments
  • No screen setup required
  • Easy to reproduce detailed designs and reorders

Cons

  • The transfer can have more of a surface feel than DTG or some screen prints
  • Large solid designs may feel heavier on the garment
  • Screen printing is often more economical for larger quantities
  • Not always the best choice when a very soft print feel is the priority

Not sure whether DTF, DTG, screen printing, or another decoration method is right for your project? Tri-Arts can recommend the best option based on your artwork, garment, quantity, and budget.
